PhD, 3 Years
Emmanuel Osakue from Nigeria has been in Kuching for the past 5 years. He earned his first degree in Nigeria and decided to further his studies overseas. While studying for his Masters Degree, he decided to research on African and Asian beads. It was this research topic that brought him to Borneo. “I found that because Malaysia has a combination of so many different ethnic communities, I decided to base my studies on beads here and how it applies to each community,” said Emmanuel who has travelled to interiors of Sarawak for his research. He completed his programme last year and is now pursuing his PhD.
“Kuching is a peaceful city and a great place to study. It has a lot of stability. Everything in Kuching is in place. Same applies to UNIMAS. Students who plan to come to study can expect a good environment and a good system that is conducive to their education,” he said.
Emmanuel is also lecturing part-time at UNIMAS while pursuing his PhD.
Degree in Economics, 3 Years
Chyngyz Mansurov from Kyrgyzstan found out about UNIMAS when there was a conference in his city. He attended a seminar about Malaysian education and researched online about the universities in Malaysia. That was how he found UNIMAS. Chyngyz arrived in Sarawak a few months ago and is now pursuing a 3 year degree in Economics. According to Chyngyz, Kuching is a very peaceful and friendly city. “The people are very helpful especially when they know I am an international student and new to the city. The UNIMAS staff and students are very helpful in anything that I need.” he said.
“When I arrived at the airport here at 3am, the staff from the International Affairs Division at UNIMAS was there to meet me. Dr Kasing Apun, who is head of International Affairs Division has been very kind and helping me to settle down here.”
Tourism and Hospitality Management - 2 year
I am a student from
. My course is tourism and hospitality management in Unimas. In terms of facilities, the system is comforting me. The atmosphere is very calm and peaceful. It is a good environment for students to concentrate on their study. I rarely meet with an obstacle when it comes to communication because most people can understand and speak English. Korea
Australia, Nursing - 1 year
Hi, we are Cynthia Hosken and Kate Pappin, the first two exchange students from
to study at UNIMAS. Kuching is a lot like Adelaide ,Australia - small and quiet, yet has everything you need. The people are very friendly and we have made many friends quickly. We are very busy both with our studies and socially. We have experienced working in Adelaide as our practical attachment where we spent a week in Accident and Emergency, Intensive Care and Radiotherapy wards to experience the Malaysian healthcare system. Our time here also involves attending classes at Sarawak General Hospital Lot 77 and doing assignments. During our time here we hope to gain a greater understanding of International nursing and experience a culture different to our own. We believe this experience will broaden our perspective on cultural values, cultural differences and different methods of nursing care. It is a great privilege to be part of this program.
